Designed as a vacation getaway to be shared by two families, this modestly modern house accommodates four bedrooms and a generous 'Great Room' on a narrow site. The soft palette of cladding materials connects the house visually to its lakefront site, even as the structure seems to float above the ground. The house is raised up on columns to bring the living areas above the 200-year flood level. A processional along the length of the site ramps up to form a front porch and then steps down to a boardwalk, which continues to the lakefront. A series of moveable panels form a second facade outside the porch, providing a zone of privacy within the outdoor space.
